What is A WordPress Theme Framework? Do You Need One?

With a standard theme, EVERYTHING that goes into making your blog look the way it does is all meshed together.

You probably know what a theme is. It is essentially the design of your Wordpress site. It controls what your site looks like. OK, got that part. But, what about a theme framework? What the hell IS a theme framework? And, how is it any different than a regular theme? I'm going to answer that in this post. And, in the process, maybe shed some light into why I decided to switch to a framework like Genesis from my custom theme I had been using for years. Two Approaches To The Same Thing You … [Read more...]

How To Create Quick, Quality Videos With Your iPhone

iPhone

One of the things I've been resolved to do lately is make more videos. Simply put, I felt like I was dropping the ball with my Youtube channel and sacrificing a pretty effective strategy... basically because I thought I didn't have the time. But, then Youtube Capture came out on the iPhone. Then, I thought... wait, my iPhone has a camera. I have no excuses. :) So, I set out to make more videos using my iPhone. Thing is, I wanted my videos to look as good as I could. Most iPhone videos are … [Read more...]

The Academy Relaunches On The Genesis Framework

studiopress-theme-genesis-framework-wordpress

Well, if you're a regular reader of this blog, then there's a good chance that you've already noticed that the site looks pretty different now. I have just re-launched Blog Marketing Academy, now powered by the Genesis Framework. Personally, I think it looks a HELL of a lot better. :)  What do you think? Why Did I Pick The Genesis Framework? I will likely do a more thorough blog post where I compare Genesis to some of the other theme frameworks out there. In the meantime, however, here … [Read more...]

How To Increase Your Site Speed By Blocking or Controlling Search Bots

Search Bots

In case you hadn't heard, Google most definitely considers how fast your site runs when it decides how well to rank you in the search results. But, ironically enough, it is often the search engines themselves which slow our sites to a crawl. Well, you can put some controls in on this. It is a bit on the geeky side, but this is something you should pay attention to if you want your blog to be humming along nicely. What Are We Talking About Here? Search bots are little software programs … [Read more...]

How To Move A WordPress Blog To Another Web Host

In PHPMyAdmin, click on Export.

One of the things about web hosting these days is that you have a TON of options. As a consumer, you can shop around. Not only that, if you aren't happy with your current hosting, there isn't any reason you have to stick around. Moving your site isn't really as big a deal as you might think. Why I Changed Hosts After Over 10 Years I recently switched to a different web host. For me, this was a pretty big deal. I had been with Pair Networks for over a decade, paying for a pretty expensive … [Read more...]

How I Write and Send An Email To My Email List Within 60 Seconds Using Tools & Systems

IFTT job

Systems. It is on my mind. One of my big pushes in 2013 is to systematize things in my business as much as possible so as to automate them and/or make them take as little time as possible. It starts like this... I take some kind of task that I find needs to be done on a repeating basis. I then break that process down into steps. I then look for any way to shorten it. I document it and post it into my company training portal (for my virtual assistants). So, one example is how I can … [Read more...]

Ten Minute Pages Versus OptimizePress / Premise / LeadPages

optimizepress-small

Over the last several days, I've been talking about Ten Minute Pages - a simple drag & drop solution that creates landing pages and squeeze pages in just about the easiest fashion I've ever seen. But, I've also been a pretty big proponent of OptimizePress in the past. And, I know many of my readers also use Premise. So, the question is... where does Ten Minute Pages (aka 10MP, for short) come into the mix? Does 10MP make OptimizePress or Premise obsolete? If you already own … [Read more...]

Want To Spend Your 2013 Making Money, Or Fighting Software?

money_labyrinth

All this talk about building traffic, making sales, building your list... all of it is dependent on one thing... Software. And for many people, that fact sucks. It sucks because we're not all geeks. This stuff can be confusing. And there is a lot of conflicting advice out there. How do you get a certain feature into your Wordpress blog? How do you customize your theme? How do you place opt-in forms in certain places on your site? Which email service should you use? Which shopping carts … [Read more...]

Are You Hosting With GoDaddy? Time to Switch.

Yesterday, big news on the GoDaddy front. And anybody who had their site or their email hosted with GoDaddy noticed it pretty quickly. Essentially, GoDaddy disappeared from the Internet yesterday. The exact cause has yet to be officially determined, but a hacker named Anonymousown3r, a self-proclaimed member of Anonymous, is claiming responsibility. He is saying that this wasn't an official effort of the group and that he was acting on his own. Whether that is true or not, it is … [Read more...]

Class Syllabus: WordPress Technical Workshop, Starting August 7th

As my readers no doubt know by now, I will be personally delivering a series of live online workshops starting on August 7th. The subject? Demolishing Your Blogging Technical Confusions I sat down and create an outline of the workshops, and the class syllabus. It was originally designed to be a 6 workshop series, but I'm pretty sure I'll need to do at least 7. Call it over-delivery. :) Here is the rough breakdown of what we'll be doing... … [Read more...]
