Pirillo Live Using Freely Available Technologies

Over at BUZZscreen, I made mention of Chris Pirillo's new venture. Chris is now broadcasting via webcam all day long, answering people's questions, etc. He is answering 4-5 questions per day and posting the recordings to various video sites like Youtube. In between recordings, you're basically watching him work at his computer. I was curious how he managed to get all this set up. First off, you will see the that the video feed is branded by Ustream.tv. I went and checked it out and was quite … [Read more...]

Terrorism – How Internet Businesses Should Plan

When I'm working, I like to listen to podcasts and talk radio. Well, talk radio has a lot of current events being discussed, and one of the most current events today is the war on terror. Now this subject very easily gets into the realm of politics, which I have no interest in discussing on this website. However, the fact is that the threat of terrorism is real today and it can affect those of us who make our livings online. I do think some people get way too involved in this stuff and try to … [Read more...]

Top 8 Internet Marketing Podcasts

Those of us who are interested in internet business or even just the web in general are usually fairly technology inclined. We usually like playing with tech gadgets. Our computers are usually pretty decked out and we know how to use them. And, like so many, we probably have MP3 players. Well, if so, you're in luck (and if not, get with the times). Because podcasts are an internet phenomenon and that means that those of us who are online a lot have a bunch of great podcasts to listen to. Since … [Read more...]

How to Submit a WordPress Powered Podcast to Itunes

OK, this post is notable for two reasons. One is that I am going show you how to do something. Two is I'm going to SHOW you how to do something, as in my first video for WebbyOnline. Watch and learn something (hopefully). This video is going to walk you through the basics of setting up your podcast with the Itunes Music Store. Simply put, if you host a podcast, you want it in Itunes. Itunes is practically the go-to location for podcasts now, due to the widespread popularity of the Apple … [Read more...]

PairNIC versus GoDaddy for Domains

I have been a hosting customer of Pair Networks for quite some time now. They are solid and I am happy with them. I've got two dedicated servers with them working in tandem and, yeah, I throw a good chunk of scratch their way every month for it. I have also been managing my domain names using PairNIC, which is Pair's domain management service. I am happy with PairNIC as well, except for one little point: they are pricey. If you renew for 5 years, you get the domains at $10/year, but that's $50 … [Read more...]

UNIX Timestamp Calculator

Several months ago, I created a simple AJAX-based UNIX timestamp calculator. For the longest time, I simply ran the script here locally when I needed it. I decided that it could be helpful for others as well. It took a little work to figure out how to get it to play nice with Wordpress, however I have gotten it working and it is now available in the new Tools section of this website. Check out the UNIX Timestamp Calculator. Obviously, this is going to be more useful and relevant to programmers. … [Read more...]

Blog Monetization, PayPerPost and Ebook Affiliate Saturation

Here is my introductory diatribe from this week’s WebbyOnline newsletter. To get this in your inbox each week, just subscribe in the form at the top of this site. Oh, busy times. Busy times. As I said last week, I am putting Miraserver development into hyperdrive. And I'm feeling it now since I stayed up last night until 2AM working on it. Some of my readers may be used to this, but I'm usually hitting the hay before midnight, and I usually stop working earlier than that so that I can spend … [Read more...]

Internet Marketing – What’s New?

Here is my introductory diatribe from this week's WebbyOnline newsletter. To get this in your inbox each week, just subscribe in the form at the top of this site. Well, it's May already. Unbelievable. It seems like this year just started. Doing a quick status check on things in my own business, I really think I am putting my eggs in the right baskets right now. One of the big things I am working on is putting MUCH more focus on marketing. More focus than I ever have, actually. And its almost … [Read more...]

Why a Drop in Adsense Revenue?

I recently made some adjustments to the layout over at PCMech. Nothing I thought was very drastic. I was simply re-organizing some elements and fixing some long-time problems (like creeping CSS layers in IE). Well, after I went live with the new layout, I began keeping a close eye on the various revenue sources. One of the things that caught my eye big time was a drastic reduction in clicks generated by Google Adsense. The CTR (click-through radio) went down by almost 0.5%, which is quite a bit. … [Read more...]

How Projects Really Work

I found this one this evening and thought it was hilarious. And I've been in this business long enough to know that this is pretty much EXACTLY how it usually works. I think one of the biggest drawbacks to hiring a web developer is the lack of knowledge. Web developers can be a bit cocky to begin with. Couple that with the drive to make as much money as possible, and essentially they turn into a car salesman with a pocket protector. You need a simple form to take name and address and email it … [Read more...]
