Blog Giveaway: Win Copy Of Gary Vaynerchuk’s “Crush It!”

book-header2-transI want to give you a free copy of “Crush It”, the bestselling book by Gary Vaynerchuk.

I probably don’t even need to tell you much about Gary. Most people in our circle know who he is and what he’s about. I have read the book and it is a great one, especially for bloggers (video or otherwise).

The spirit of the book is what I admire the most. It is all about getting out there and kicking ass. However, Gary also goes into his views on how to build an online brand and a community of followers and, as the title says, cash in on your passion.

So, here’s how this is going to work. I obviously can’t afford to buy every one of my readers a copy of Gary’s book, however I have 10 copies here to give away. I want to do a contest. One which embodies the spirit of Gary’s book. So, here it is…

I want to pick the top 10 contest entries who are absolutely crushing it. I want to reward people for taking action and making things happen as bloggers.. So, you can enter this contest by doing the following two actions:

  1. Post a comment below and tell me and everybody else what you have accomplished so far this year to CRUSH IT with your blog. What will you do in the next 3 months? What are you doing differently to really step up your game? How are you actively making 2010 an absolutely killer year for your life as a blogger?
  2. Retweet a link to this post and tell your followers that you’ve entered the contest.

I am going to pick the 10 biggest action takers and send them a copy of this book. I’m also going to feature a link to your blog and your entry right here on DavidRisley.com when I announce the winners.

I’m going to let this contest run all this week, and I’ll announce winners next week. So, I’ll put a deadline of Sunday, 4/25 at 12AM for entries.

I’ll be looking for real action, not just lip service. You might even include some stats to show the results of your work. Include an aspiring story, perhaps.

I’ll admit fully that the selection of winners here is going to be completely subjective, however I really want to find people who are embodying the spirit of Gary’s book. It isn’t even about Gary’s book, because I’ve always said that it is people who lean forward and take action who are going to see results – always.

So, start commenting and retweeting! May the 10 biggest action takers win, and I look forward to also telling the entire audience about you and your blog.

UPDATE 4/26, 11:30 AM EST – This contest is now closed. I’ll be going through the submissions and announcing winners soon. Stay tuned!

About 3 weeks ago I officially launched my site. I had been blogging about the same-ish stuff for about two years already using a free blog space. I had no idea what I was really doing I knew I wanted to spread awareness but was totally clueless. Two years pass and I still don't think anyone actually saw my blog until I bought a domain and started building. I was reading everything I could get my hands on, a lot of it from here, about blogging, launching, maintaining, and growing. Now in my third week live I have quintupled the views of my last blog (of 2 years) and I have my first subscribers. I know this is still new for me but I have great things planned for it. In the next 3 months I plan to keep going with my marketing campaign, hosting a local fundraiser for children's literacy in my sites name, and keep producing great content. I even have my first guest posts appearing on bigger blogs coming next week. As far as marketing goes I have been reaching out to bloggers who have similar goals and are in similar places to share resources, networking like you wouldn't believe, and sharing my project with anyone that will listen in the real world. I have been absolutely killing it developing a social media following and I am very appreciative of my friends and family for sharing what I produce on their own social networks.
My goal for 2010 not only include becoming and authority site in my niche but to really be a contributing member of the blogging community because I've seen how hard it is to get started and there are a lot of great people out there who have great things to say that might not have stuck it out for two unsuccessful years like I did.

First of all I must thank all bloggers out there! This includes pro bloggers who encourage us to write about our passions and they also share tips on how to write effectively. A big THANK YOU for opening my mind on what's possible!!!

I can honestly say that the blog is my number one promoting tool for my apparel business.

Gary Vee inspires me every day with his videos and I'm being more confident I can crush it – I was also born in a communist country.

I'm from Romania (former communist regime) and English is a foreign language for me. If it wasn't for blogging I wouldn't have accomplished that much. I'm a blogger for less than a year and my blogging has evolved significantly. At first I was writing all kinds of articles (bad ones) but now I'm more focused and concise and here's what I managed to accomplish:

    - I'm one of the top search results for “edit gopro HD videos” – I'm into extreme sports and I use a GoPro HD camera to shoot my adventures
    - I'm one of the top search results for “fingerboard training” and “build your own fingerboard” – the fingerboard is a training tool in climbing (for finger and forearm strength)
    - I'm one of the top search results for “gopro glidecam” – a glidecam is a device that is used in video shooting for stabilizing the image and giving the “gliding” effect – I built my own glidecam from hardware store parts and i blogged about it
    - I'm one of the top search results for “blog outdoor”

And now here are the business related ones:
    - I got several deals for my apparel – clients found my blog and contacted me
    - Jeremy Schoemaker from Shoemoney.com featured my downhill bike jersey of Free T shirt Friday (two weeks ago) and from what I read in the comments 90% of people said the shirt is cool and some said this is the best shirt they had seen so far on Shoemoney.com.
    - I got in touch with Zappos.com – their outdoor department is interested in my cycling line (samples are in work and will be delivered next week) :-) Wish me luck on that!!!
    - A big sponsor from Utah has found my blog and offered me more than $1200 worth of gear – portable solar panels, flash lights and battery packs for outdoor camping. They also offered me cash (almost 4 figures; can't tell you the exact amount) for using some of my photos and one video on their web page Goal0.com. They also said they wanna “hook up with me” as I helped them with name suggestions for their blog, products and I also gave them feedback on how they can improve their gear. I tested the gear while mountaineering. Maybe I'll visit USA soon! I'm dying to check out Utah, Arizona and California (I'm crazy about climbing rocks!)
    - I got in touch with a non profit organization – Rennow.org – that helps underprivileged artists. The people behind the organization are highly interested in video making tips – that's how we got connected. I asked them to help the artist that draws the funny climbing T shirt design on Highball Blog. This hasn't happened yet but I'm sure it will soon.

In the next three month I'll be focusing on the cycling line apparel – as the warm season is here now. I'm also discussing with a German retailer but it's nothing certain for the moment.

On my blog I'll write to the point, focused post trying to teach people about outdoorsy stuff – be it climbing, cycling, gear reviews, etc.

My writing will be based more and more on using topics and keywords that people use when they land on my blog from search engines. I usually write on the top keywords that my Google analytics shows and after those keywords are saturated with content, I move to the next top keywords. This has proven to be very effective. I also wrote a blog post about that where I suggested the “Don't write anything for two weeks test”.

I'm thinking of making Highball apparel special by having at least one item per season fully designed by readers of the blog. I'm also thinking about partnering with an established company who has the power and logistics of developing new items (like bike waterproof jackets, technical pants, etc).

As Gary Vee said “You have to love the process!” – I'm not NIKE (yet) but I'm loving the process and who knows…maybe NIKE will acquire me in the next two years. :-)

Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this contest, David!

PS: I'll pay for the shipping expense if I get a copy of “Crush it”.

DAVID,Greetings from rural Australia. As a graduate of your first BlogMasters Club program, I know the importance of making your blog work for you.And no one knows this better than you.And Gary Vaynerchuk.’Crush It’ is an outstanding memoir of why – and how – he’s where he is today.I downloaded the Audible version of ‘Crush It’ first and highly recommend it as an adjunct to every one of your students who wins a copy of his book. Or has the get up and go to just buy their own copy.Gary’s pumped up enthusiasm is at hyper level every second he speaks. And it’s contagious. On Audible, Gary often goes off script and talks about many things regarding social media that he freely admits he didn’t put in the book. After listening to the Audible version, I also purchased the book. For referencing. He gives so much information about sites to use and how to get started in social media, the book is like a road map you must follow, to be sure you get to where you want to be.As usual, David, you’re an inspiration to your students.Your BlogMasters Club inspired me and gave me the confidence to finally do something I’ve wanted to do for several years. To establish a second website purely for my fundraising program.I was able to put it on WordPress.com, using Thesis, all under my own steam. With help from no one other than your tutorials and the advice and interaction I garnered in your forums with club members. Hope all is well with your expanding family and your business. That’s two tough projects to balance at the same time. But I know you’re up to it. Best wishes and take care,CarolCarol JonesDirectorInterface Pty LtdDesigners of The Fitz Like A Glove™ Ironing Board Coverhttp://www.SimpleSolutionsForDifficultProblems.com

Trece – you can do this. It does take an enormous amount of energy and time. There is no other way. Of the people I know in this list of comments (many), we're all humping it 12-16 hours per day. That's how bad we want it. Actually, it's even scarier: that's how much we like it!

    I know I need the book! ;)
    Ive done:
Increase my alexa rankins even though I dont get their methods ;)
Increase the number of suscribers! from 400 to 1,200 (the first 500 were the hardest!)
I post daily, but the quality of my posts is better!
I got a gig of writing in one of the most important magazines in my niche in México.
I got the chance to talk about finances (my niche) in an important radio show in México.
Im developing a product to sell
I just need some extra hours a day… ¿can anyone give me 2?
    (sorry for my english)
    Best!

While not in the same blogging stratosphere as most responding to the entry to win — I figure why not … you’ve got to dream big and that’s what “crushing it” is all about.

    I’m new to blogging – launching http://www.LivingFrugalTips.com on 11/13/10.
Within two months I’d claimed my vanity URL on Facebook.
Quality content has been the focus, posting 3 days per week – Mon, Wed and Fri.
In February my writing on Living Frugal Tips was discovered by http://www.WomenExchange.com and I was asked to be a contributing writer — which I’ve been doing ever since.
Weekly traffic counts are increasing 30 -40%. Currently only about 100 visits a day.
I’m involved in Frugal Carnivals (featured post one week), and hub pages.
Facebook fan count is now at 256 in 5 short months.
I’m on Twitter, and LinkedIn too.
I’ve been approached by an abundant of advertisers and other bloggers wanting to contribute to my site.

My favorite moments are those where I touch someone with my writing — people out of a job or those wanting to be a stay-at-home mom — those touched by or inspired by my story and dreaming the impossible dream (made possible).

Inspiration is what drives me and reading all the stories here keeps me moving forward with unbridled hope and optimism.

In the coming months … I want to continue to refine the “what the heck makes me different.” Why should people care to go to my site? The differentiation that will catapult me into the next blogging stratosphere where I’m shoulder to shoulder with the greats that I subscribe to and read about — David, Yaro, Leo and Mary, Gideon and those female bloggers that have achieved super-stardom.

Writing moves me and writing an ebook is the definite next step, perhaps attending a blogging conference.

Small steps … forward movement to greatness. It’s all possible with energy and inspiration.

Thanks for all that you do David to inspire us all.

    Lisa

    Wow, Congratulations!

I started my blog in the 3D niche (specifically VFX, texturing and lighting) in January, and I have to say I'm a little stunned here. Great work, really.

Let’s see… I’ve had Imperfect Clarity (http://www.imperfectclarity.net/) for a couple years but have just now decided to put everything I have into making it a better blog.

I have been doing book reviews and author interviews for a while now–authors like Peter Straub, Christopher Moore, Les Edgerton.

One day in February this year, I decided to email Seth Godin and ask him if he would mind doing an email interview with me. When he said yes, I sent him several questions I fretted and worried over (naturally, I didn’t want to look like a fool). Seth’s responses to that interview were fabulous and have really been inspiring and if you want to read the interview, it’s on my blog sidebar–just click on the lizard.

I finally came up with the idea behind my blog a couple weeks ago: Imperfect Clarity is a detailed look at the thought processes of a fiction writer trying to improve her life and become successful by living her life to the fullest.

I have my first guest blogger position for another website I have been following closely and I’ll be posting articles twice a month at first. I’m excited that someone took me on and liked what I’m trying to do–my first post should be next weekend :)

I have many ebooks that I’ve been trying to work my way through and to figure out what exactly I’m doing and what will help me get the most benefits. I need to build up my readership–to use Facebook fan pages and Twitter (I’ve got your Twitter book) and other means of social media to do so. I’m trying–just doesn’t seem like I get that many hits, so I’m doing what I can to improve that.

Next weekend I will be branding my blog with a new logo.

I’m taking steps slowly because, you know what? Sometimes I really don’t know what to do. But I’m reading, leaving comments, and working some more! :)

  • andrewpprice

Thank so much Heather! And thanks for dropping a comment on my blog :)

  • http://picsiechick.blogspot.com/ PicsieChick

Wow. Great promotion and great entries from such fabulous bloggers! I can hardly count myself amongst them, and have oh-so-much to learn from all of you.

I have made progress recently, though, shifting my blog which was simply one photo and a short inspirational quote virtually every day.

Very recently I started using my own words, and the response has been really positive.

Last week I surpassed 400 followers on Twitter, so I had a giveaway of an Art Card, which actually led to being the featured artist on Fotomoto.com today.

So far, very small steps. Soon, the steps will get bigger as I revamp my site into a self-hosted WordPress blog, create my accompanying facebook page, etc. I’m looking forward to it.

Just got to build the website for my newly-a-real-estate agent husband, first, while I train for my first triathlon and my first belly dance solo, during the hours I’m not working at my full time job.

So, yeah, I really want to learn how to Crush it! :-) But I totally get it if I don’t qualify, yet.

    Maybe on the next giveaway…..

    Hugs and butterflies,
    ~T~

    Hey, David.
I had already bought, read and loved the book before you started the give away. I think it is a great selection. It couldn’t have fit the target audience better. Hopefully, I will start crushing it soon.
I am being a good reader and applying what I have learned.
Normally I don’t leave links, but I did review the book on my blog so I thought I’d share.

    Hi David,

Thanks for the contest, hope that I’m one of the winners. Here’s my comments.

What I have accomplished so far this year to CRUSH IT with my blog?

This year my blog (http://www.ProfitsMasterPlan.com) readership has reached an average of 700 per month from zero visitor since I started my blog in May 2009.

I’ve interviewed many Entrepreneurs and learned many “implementable techniques” & success mindset from them on how to CRUSH IT with my blog.

I’ve also started the fanpage “The Entrepreneur Community” on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/TheEntrepreneurCommunity) to further reach out to Entrepreneurs around the world.

What will I do in the next 3 months?

Although the average of 700 visitors per month is a small number but I’m determined to continue dishing out valuable and “what’s working for me” content to more profitable business online for the next 3 months.

I will continue to interview Entrepreneurs in order to inspire and generate more business ideas for the community at my blog and “The Entrepreneur Community” on facebook.

I will also start reaching out to Entrepreneurs at different business blogs.

What will I be doing differently to really step up my game?

To really step up my game differently, I will be starting online video marketing to reach a wider audience.

How am I going to actively making 2010 an absolutely killer year for my life as a blogger?

I will be actively promoting and encouraging participation on my blog and “The Entrepreneur Community” on facebook.

By the end of 2010, I hope to increase the number of people in “The Entrepreneur Community” on facebook to 200 from the current community of 100 people.

I discovered that facebook has a large pool of Entrepreneurs who are CRUSHING IT both online and offline.

I hope I can gather all aspiring and successful Entrepreneurs, so that everyone can leverage on the community to take their businesses to a new level through better collaboration and support.

In this way, I really hope to see more success stories to inspire people who want to make a difference in their life and making 2010 an absolutely killer year as a blogger and as an Entrepreneur.

    David -

    Great idea!

I joined the Blog Masters Club this past year to take my entire site to the next level. Unfortunately, the fitness industry can be quite shady – there are a lot of people out there with great marketing and internet tactics, but their products and information are sub-par at best.

My goal was to provide a high-quality site where people could get real-world training information, from someone who actually trains people!

I had several goals FOR THE YEAR when I started the BMC:

    - Hit 30,000 unique visits – I did this last month
    - Move from an Alexa score of 297k into the top 200k. I actually did this last month as well (although it fluctates a bit).
    - Hit 1000 followers on Twitter (closing in on this as we speak).
    - Write a guest blog every month. This has allowed me to add several thousand new readers to my list this year alone.

More important than the stats, though, is what it's done for my site.

    - I'm posting 3-4 new blogs every week for everyone to view.
    - I release 1 new piece of premium content every week as well (Podcast, newsletter, etc.)
    - I've posted approximately 80 videos on YouTube and other sites via TubeMogul (that one's straight from Crush It!)
    - Next week, I'll be releasing a new information product geared towards strength coaches, personal trainers and fitness enthusiasts.

I learned about you and Gary at about the same time, and you've both heavily influenced me in a lot of ways. I think both sides have a ton of great information – obviously you work your ass off (like Gary talks about), but you also need to be smart with your time and leverage yourself appropriately.

I know there are a ton of other fantastic stories on here, but I figured I should at least share mine. You guys are a huge inspiration and I hope you all keep up the great work!

    Best
    Mike

There are 100+ comments right now, I'm also adding something to the table and I ask myself: How to stand out in a crowd like this?

People I have to tell you that we are still on the ground, whereas people like Gary and David are already sitting in a started rocket to the moon.

I was thinking to myself prior to starting a blog: Isn't it late? NO! You can start even today and enjoy a good living as David, because there are literally MILLIONS of people out there, who just don't care about this internet thing. I've been online since 1993 and I didn't get this blogging thing until 2007! Yeah, the connection in my brain was cut :)

Anyway, when I realized I need a blog, I started one. And here are my accomplishments: I have DOUBLED my visitor numbers in the last 3 months. My PageRank also increased twice within 6 months.

In the future I plan to start producing video podcasts, maybe audio podcasts and surely start a membership site ;) After digging a while (like 3 years now) I again realized that membership sites are the only way to go for the future.

How do I want to make a difference? I'm lucky enough to be competing in a niche with… Eh… nobody :) Yes, nobody and we have like 2010, right? Start digging and maybe you end up lucky too. But just start now and you will find the secret on the way there!

Anyway I want to add more value and simplify my blog as my blog posts were too looooooong and the future is somewhere else.

2010 will be THE KILLER, because I want to start that membership site and I want to HELP someone to take a similar action and start earning from blog. I'm aiming at experts in their niches and planning to work with them, because that's the only way you can be the authority and on top of your stuff. And it will be an overkill, because I'm starting projects that were planned since 2007…

I hope to win the book, because I had no clue who this guy – Gary – was until I saw his 3rd video. And only then it lit up my brain: Well, he must be successful, because this video really shows some unseen secrets and tips. And there was even something, I couldn't see in my business, even though it was in front of my eyes daily from the moment I had an internet access.

Good luck to all other “players” too! Because if I win, there are still 9 books left ;)

PS: Sorry for my English. It is like my 4th language :D

  • http://www.elo2000.com Petr

Hi David, here is my entry to the contest ;)

I have a chess blog ELO2000.com. It is oriented to amateur players and lovers of chess who would like to become better players. Until March I did not take to much care of the blog, I have to admit. But since March I started to publish more articles per week and added more training lessons (but still not enough). I also added news for the chess world and at the moment I am covering the World Chess Championship Match with articles and published games. I also did some promotion to the Facebook fan page of ELO2000.com and now I am having 400+ fans there (all new articles are “promoted” on the Facebook fan page, of course). I also promote my blog on my Twitter account (@petrs). All these things went to rapid increase of the number of visitors on my blog – almost 300% up within a month, which is great number, I think!

And my future plans? Publishing chess articles at least 5 times a week. I am finishing a free ebook for e-mail subscribers of my blog. I plan a chess tournament for chess books as prizes in the near future. All these tasks will be done within next 3 months. And later this year I would like to open private chess course for intermediate players.

Kelly. You. Me. Drinks at Blogworld. Nuf said.

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Funny observation, but really, why would I want to give free stuff to people who don't take any action? I don't reward apathy.

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

What's your blog and how old is it?

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Feel free to stop into the Club forums anytime. Prior students are more than welcome. :-)

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

What's your URL? You should link that up in your blog comments. :-)

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Thanks. Just remember, though, stop collecting emails and start taking action. You don't have to wait to “do it properly”. Just do it and adjust along the way. You can educate yourself into completely paralysis.

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Guest posting will work well. Might also want to think about a re-design to your blog to suit your branding. Right now, it looks a little plain. Do like the opt-in box in that location, though. If it isn't converting well, it might be simply lack of traffic, or perhaps your offer isn't compelling enough.

See my most recent video on my Youtube channel about the right way to build a list.

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Well done. :-) I'd definitely get a real list, though, and not wait to make it work along with an ebook launch. Just do it now… you can always promote it more when the ebook is ready. :-)

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Awesome. Sounds like you need to do more teleseminars. Seems to have worked. :-)

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Underdogs can win, but I think part of the trick is not to think like an underdog. ;-) Unless that motivates you. Instead, think like you're going to kick ass and take names and crush whoever tries to mess with you. Seriously. :-)

  • http://davidrisley.com David Risley

Good stuff. I've had you guys in my RSS reader for a long time. :-)

David, thank you for your comments and recommendations. I'll get on it right away.

Why educate those who already have the knowledge?
