Have You Taken Action Lately? Honestly!

While I was in New York last week, I had my new virtual assistant (Lisa) do the analysis on the blogger survey I ran on this blog a month or so ago. I got a lot of great insight into what is going on with you guys in regards to your blogging. And something stood out to me…

I have a list of topics and confusions that will make for great material for you guys in the future. My aim is to help you become a better (and richer) blogger. But!

I’ll be honest. Many of the things that came up in this survey have been talked about many times in the past on this blog. Not only that, but many of the other great blogs in this market (ala ProBlogger) have touched on these things, too. Which leads me to ask you…

What ACTION have you taken lately to expand your blog in the direction you want?

My regular readers know that I am a straight-talk kind of guy. So, I’m not going to beat around the bush…

Myself, Darren, Yaro, Chow….we can talk all day about ways to build your traffic, build your list, get more blog comments, etc, but if you don’t actually ACT on what we say, the results are predictable. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

On the other hand, if you make a habit of taking action on a regular basis, you can do very well as a blogger and you’ll soon find yourself standing out as a model to others. Interestingly, I find myself in this position. Today, I find myself in a very small group of bloggers who have managed to make a full-time income doing this. Is it because I’m gifted? Lucky? I don’t think so, really. I think it is because I take action and actually DO the things I talk about on this blog. Most bloggers don’t do what is necessary to succeed.

I haven’t always been a model blogger in this area, either. There are several bloggers out there doing very well who have been at it for a shorter amount of time than I have. So, obviously, success isn’t a matter of serving your time. It is a matter of working smartly and taking action. Those who have taken bold actions (and the right ones) better than I have are now doing better than I am. The length of time they’ve been blogging has nothing to do with it.

So, what action have you taken lately? Be honest!

When it comes to list building, it is marketing 101 to offer some kind of incentive to earn the opt-in. So, have you sat down and authored a free report for your audience yet?

When it comes to traffic building, some of the basics are commenting on other blogs, being active on Twitter, writing on a regular basis, etc. So, are you doing it? Are you going out and reading other blogs and commenting regularly? Are you active on Twitter? Are you writing regularly?

It is too easy to let confusion turn into paralysis. You don’t have to be an expert on something to do it. You don’t have to collect every little tid-bit of traffic building strategy to begin acting on some of it. You don’t have to put so much thought into your free report for your list that you end up not writing anything to begin with.

Don’t become a habitual student. Yes, you always want to be learning, but you want to do so while you are actually DOING. If you are always building up to DOING, you’ll never get anywhere.

So, what action have you taken lately? Be honest!

Well thought out article. Long time back I read an article by Daren about list of things you have to do as a blogger ( Learning, list building, contest research, marketing, networking, …) and this article goes very well in line with that.ACTION part of the ideas is is much more difficult to implement.

It’s very easy to get lot of ideas after reading all the problogger’s articles, but actually implementing and testing all new ideas really takes lot of effort.

To keep track of all ideas that pop-up, I started using Auto Focus System (by Mark Forster). I tried various Getting Things done and other to do list methods, but AFS is working for me.

From what I have seen, taking one idea at a time then implement it, test it, measure the results, works better than jumping around with tons of ideas. Right now I’m working on list building using Aweber and internal SEO

    Absolutely,

Action is key to being a success in the internet marketing game. I believe that one of the biggest hurdles us internet marketers face today is information overload. We are regularly bombarded and inundated with the latest software, information and products that sometimes we lose focus of what we are actually meant to be doing in the first place.

I was a culprit and sometimes still am for wondering off to other sites and doing other things which I’m not supposed to be doing according to my daily action planner. I think it takes a lot of discipline and effort to be able to stick to your strategy/plan and focus on the tasks at hand without being distracted left right and centre on the blogosphere.

Perhaps we should do it the Shaolin way, where the master would observe the student at all times and if the student messed up he would get a huge big whack on a part of his body so as to remind him not to do it again.

Mmmmm, physical discipline – can we handle it?

I could answer yes to most questions, but i could as well add “not enough” to most of them too.
So, yes, i’ve been active, but not enough. There, i was honest. :P

I’m going to fall into the same category as Marko above. I work on almost all of the above daily just not as much as I SHOULD be doing.

Ow! You got me. I’m not posting enough on my blog. I know this. That line about being a ‘perpetual student’ got me right where it hurts. Resolving to act on it immediately.
Thank you for being there for us. :-)

This was a great pep talk. At the very minimum, I strive to produce new content as often as possible during the week, and commenting is mandatory. But the design tweaks, free reports to get opt-ins on the list, etc. — that’s all stuff to stay focused on. THanks DR
