This is the secret to list building that they don’t want you to know.
- Find or create something which people in your market will find valuable or helpful,
- Give it to them in exchange for their email address.
- Do this a lot.
Now you know. If you tell anybody else this secret, be sure to whisper.
P.S. Oh, just one more thing. It also helps to have a mailing list solution worthy of building a big list with. and for that, I recommend Aweber. That one isn’t any secret because most people worth their salt like Aweber, too.

Nice now you went out and told the worl the ultra underground secret to the world.lol
Like most things in blogging and Internet Marketing, there really isn't any big secrets, hard work, offer value and repeat repeat repeat, that's all you need to be successful.
Straight to the point
should i make the comment longer than the post? hehe
it actually two great points but repeatedly done.. simple yet good post.
Giving away something that is really helpful to them will really boost your email lists, plus it's viral effect when they did really like the free report that you've given to them
Yes, AWeber is Great – without a doubt! Thanks for the reminder on the process to get people to sign-up for a mailing list. Now, how do we get the people on the list to buy something?
Haha, simple and powerful message at its best. David, are you moving towards the trend of micro-blogging?

Finding and creating 'something' useful for readers and convincing them that it is useful to them, is the difficult part ?
Loved your post on ProBlogger and followed the link here and will subscribe. I heartily agree about the efficacy of freebies. My subscribers have almost doubled since I took a couple of chapters from one of my out-of-print books, turned it into an ebooklet available only to subscribers and put a picture of the cover and a description of it at the end of every new post.

Well that was quick… and yet I think it has everything that was needed to say.
Yeah, it kinda does.
Hi David,
I’m curious about step #3 – “Do this a lot.” Do you think it’s good to change up the free offer every once in a while to try to capture new visitors? Or perhaps have various free offers on various landing pages, each of which speaks to a specific reader need, and all of which put people on your list?
Thanks!
Shayna
Finally, the secret is out! The author has now told us exactly the method we need to use in order to build a really huge mailing list. Although, since I have been waiting for this revelation for years, I expected that it would shock me and be something really very advanced, maybe even appropriate for a marketing savant!
Yet, the real secret is actually very simple. According to the author, you just need to find something which people in your target market will find helpful or valuable. Then give it away to them in exchange for their email address. That’s it. Oh, one more thing. Do this a LOT!
I guess ultimately the secret is that there really is no secret. Surprised? You probably already knew this. The key is the last part—doing it a lot. This is where most people fall down. I think that we tend to want to over complicate things and make it all seem so hard. We all keep looking for magic formulas when really the answer is right in front of out eyes.
The secret is work. Getting off our butts and actually doing some simple things, over and over again. Build a squeeze page, have a great free offer, use an auto responder. The, drive traffic to that page. Tomorrow, drive some more traffic. Continue to drive more traffic. Boring, yes? Yes. But this is the only way to results.
