Traffic Geyser vs. TubeMogul: The REAL Truth

Chances are, if you’re reading this blog, you probably already realize the power of video on the Internet. OK, great. Next logical step is to get that video out all over the Internet on as many different video sites as possible. But, how?

WARNING: I’m about to just call it like I see it. I am willing to be wrong, so if somebody has an alternative viewpoint, please post a comment on this post.

I have been a long time user of TubeMogul. It is free and it works with about 24 different video sites. It also has analytics capability to compile your viewership numbers from different sites and compile them and allow tracking individually. They do have premium options available as well.

Then, there’s Traffic Geyser. Now, this option is not free. You can get a 30-day free trial, after which you’re going to be charged $97/month to use it. That certainly isn’t cheap. However, when mingling with internet marketers, you hear Traffic Geyser talked about quite a bit. Even in my own mastermind group, Traffic Geyser came heavily recommended. So, I thought I’d give it a try with the 30 day trial.

I was unimpressed with Traffic Geyser after checking it out. Here’s why…

Traffic Geyser Seems Overrated

The overriding point to Traffic Geyser is uploading videos to multiple sites at once. When I go to enter profile information into my account, I count 23 video sites available. This is less than TubeMogul. Not only is it less than TubeMogul, but the sites that Geyser works with are, in a word, PATHETIC when compared to TubeMogul.

Some of the major video sites that Traffic Geyser doesn’t seem to support are:

  • Blip.tv
  • Break
  • Crackle
  • Howcast
  • Metacafe
  • Yahoo
  • Vimeo
  • Viddler

In lieu of some of these fairly major video sites, Geyser provides upload to sites like:

  • Adhysteria
  • GUBA
  • Kewego
  • Sharkle
  • Youare.tv
  • Spike

I don’t mean to be overly critical, but some of the sites that Geyser works with are just not that important. Yet they leave out several of the pretty important ones like Vimeo and Viddler. Now, one theory as to why is that these sites might be more picky about video content. Even with TubeMogul, you have to apply for upload access to certain video sites to make sure your content is relevant. With a bunch of internet marketers using Traffic Geyser, its probably fairly certain that a lot of the video content that goes through it isn’t relevant or how-to related. This may be the reason why Geyser cannot work with these sites.

Now, Geyser does have the ability to strip the audio out of a video and turn it into a podcast. It will then upload your audio to several podcasting sites. Geyser also have some tools for easier video submission as well as creating videos using slides.

I gotta be honest, though. I fail to see how this is worth $97/month. In fact, I fail to see how this is worth using at all if you have any ability to make videos on your own.

Undeserved Popularity?

I love affiliate marketing as much as the next person, but it just might be possible that Traffic Geyser has gotten overblown because all these internet marketers are making commissions through referral. Look at this headline from their sales page:

Picture 3

They use a headline which will cater specifically to marketers (“prints money”) and they use the name of Frank Kern, a guy who most definitely is well known in internet marketing circles.

I was so unimpressed with Traffic Geyser that I was left thinking that this thing is artificially talked up by people in the business because they’re all getting paid to refer people to it.

Am I just being a cynical bastard? Probably. A more likely answer might be that they haven’t actually tried TubeMogul.

Stick with TubeMogul

I’m willing to be wrong. I’m willing for somebody to tell me what is so great about Traffic Geyser when compared to a free AND powerful option like TubeMogul. I’d love nothing more than to promote Traffic Geyser to my readers and perhaps make some commissions in the process. But, I just can’t justifiably promote something to you guys if I think it isn’t worth the money.

If you know how to make videos, use Tubemogul to upload it to the video sites that matter. You still have full control of your keywords, and you can still submit your videos to social media. In other words, you can do everything that matters with TubeMogul and do it without spending a dime.

I'd like to get some feed back about how people are curretly using TM? I have used the site on and off for about a year now but more recently have started using allot more video.

I used TM to upload a few video's the the 5 or so sites that they automatically give you..and at the same time inquired about “unlocking” other sites as well.

After reviewing my video's TM told me that in order to unlock the other sites I would have to sign up for the “lower level” distribution account. The lower of the two paid options is 500 per month!

So this obviously makes TG a much better deal….

Is this the same results others are finding as well? Has thee been a way that others have found to use TM and tape into the full network of distribution with out paying an arm and a leg?

Awesome article dude! Much appreciated. I was looking for something that was better than Traffic Geyser for weeks and you were like an angel from above! Thanks!

Nice article. Could you go into more detail about both of the site features? Maybe a side by side comparison?

Thanks for the information. With all the affiliates out there pimping Traffic Geyser it is hard to get an accurate review. If something is designed to make money you have to take positive reviews with a grain of salt.

  • amberkeinath

Thanks! I have been going back and forth about whether I want to invest in traffic geyser or stick with tubemogul! Thanks for the review!

You have saved me some money. There's really a lot of buzz up until now with Traffic Geyser, almost fell into it.

  • http://www.pondalgaesolutions.com Mark Washburn

You gotta appreciate honesty. I've been using Tubemogul ever since it became available and ran into a similar thing with TG. I'm sure it's fine for some folks but the price is hard to justify. Good work David and thanks!

  • Vaughn Council

I agree 100%. I used Traffic Geyser for several months. It absolutely was not worth the money. The crazy thing is $97 doesn't even get you access to the premium version. Thanks for putting up an honest post.

  • Ian Parsons

I'm brand new to the TG system, and from what I've seen so far, it does one thing well, and one thing extremely poorly.

The one good thing is the Lead Generator Page and lead tracking functionality… you can report tangible leads to prospective clients, and check their conversion rate (e.g., the spread between how many consumers viewed your message and how many were actually interested enough to provide their contact info… which, of course, clients want).

But here's the truly crappy part… TG's submission reporting is appallingly unreliable. Just 2 weeks ago I made my first submission to the video sites TG works with. TG has a Task Status List where you can check your submission status. It reports the status in a two-step process: by first logging in to the site, then attempting the upload. Well, after the upload there was mixed success according to the List: some successful, some login failures and some upload failures. Because I'm a naturally skeptical guy, I went to every site to check what actually happened, and I found that TG INCORRECTLY REPORTED THE SUBMISSION STATUS FOR 50% OF THE SITES. That's right… half the friggin' submissions were incorrectly reported. That's a pretty damning result.

I sincerely think Traffic Geyser has a lot of potential, possibly more than Tubemogul in the long run, but right now it's very much a case of overpromising and underdelivering.

  • Robert Q

Robert here again: TG is now promoting expensive Business Opportunities with affiliates like Fran Kern, Andy Jenkins and anyone else that wants to promote the Biz-Op. I am not sure if you can even buy the $97 service anymore.

Regardless, TubeMogul has turned out to be a good service. The only issue is that if your submission even mentions the word MLM or some other Biz-Op that they list as a No-Go, they will cancel your account. I am not in MLM but I could not convince them….my Vid was training to show MLMers – internet marketers how to transfer domains and upload with FTP. They canceled my account.

I started a new account and watch what I say and write….No MLM!

We recently signed up for tubemogul and after about 10 days ran into a limit and couldn't upload any more videos. We typically have 40-50 videos a month. We submitted a request for tubemogul to call us about upgrading our account. It took them over 2 weeks to get back to us. We phoned and emailed them multiple times before they finally got in touch. Initially they quote us a monthly cost of $1,5000!!!

When I explained how many videos we were uploading now and that if we expanded to use them for our international markets and not just the UK we would be looking at 150 videos. Once this was mentioned the price went up to $2,500 per month. I haven't looked at Traffic Geyser but for $100/pm if it just lets me seed my amount of videos to every site then that's all I need.

I was on the border of using TG but after reading your post I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with TM. Thanks so much man you saved me a bundle!

  • Kelvin and Amber Jones

Thanks for the article. I too felt the same way after using the TG trial. It was a great tool, but be or able to do the same thing free or cheaper. Its always good to know options.

  • Jim

I have be debating about getting traffic geyser and $97 a month is a bit step for what it does. I agree a lot of the other internet marketers will promote this because the are affiliates and making money. There is a lot of hype with traffic geyser. I am going to stick with tube mogul for now…. thanks for the info, Jim

  • Ruby Rynne

I think part of the reason why people promote Traffic Geyser over TubeMogul (aside from the commissions) is that TubeMogul don't allow any network marketing or affiliate marketing topic content to use their service. They nuke you the moment you breathe the words MLM or Affiliate. Or do a video promoting any kind of affiliate product or program. That's a major drawback for most internet marketers. I haven't been able to get Traffic Geyser (website seems to have shut down for new signups) so can't comment on it, but I recommend Hey!Spread, which is very cheap (5 cents per video per site posted), and does a similar job to TubeMogul without the BS rules about what you can use it for.

  • Dave

Great post. What about the feature of uploading to podcast sites – anybody know of a distribution service like tube mogul that does that? Thanks!

  • Stephan

I prefer Traffic Geyser over any other video submitting site out there. The thing about Tube Mogul is, they don't submit audio to podcast or social bookmarking sites. Traffic Geyser gets top rankings on Google's organic ads. If you know anything about SEO you would know that it takes time get that top ranked spot on Google. The name of the game is how many sites your links are shared on. I recommend Traffic Geyser to anyone who's looking to get more traffic and conversions.

  • Jeremy

I was with Tubemogul early on in December 2007 and had a lot of success with it, but then they shut me done time after time. I hear good things about Traffic Geyser fro people who should know what they're talking about & not just affiliates of Traffic Geyser.

If you know any other upload sites pls let us know?

  • Tom

Actually, I think Traffic Geyser (TG) is overrated. My wife bought it and she tried to get ranked for example for one local keyword where the keyword competition was about HALF of what the folks at TG give you as a maximum number (I think it's 300k/broad at the moment). She did about 9 or 10 complete submissions with TG each including video sites, bookmarking, podcast, article sites etc. and she never got on the first page of Google. So she thought, let's get some coaching from TG (which they push with every communication). Turns out she did everything correct and their certified top coach knew less than I do about SEO. Their suggestion was to build more backlinks but they didn't tell her which ones are the good ones and where to find them. So, I'm thinking TG works if your competition does not know what they are doing SEO wise. And their coaching ($250-$300/hour) is for people who don't understand the TG user training. If you don't get on the first page with TG (and this happened to my wife not only once…even though she applied their guidlines) I suggest to talk to someone who understands SEO.

  • Jeremy

Thanks for the tip on Hey!Spread…

  • http://www.myonlinebusinessstrategyinfo.org/ Karn Evans

Thanks David! I was also using the Trial version with very little results. After reading your review I am back with TubeMogul and you saved me $97 so thank you! I decided to stick at what is best, which is targeting keywords that you can compete with solely using on page SEO and minimal back linking. Organic traffic all the way!

  • Simona

Wow. Love it. Thank you sooooo much for such honesty!

  • Videoguy

I’ve been using traffic geyser for nearly three years and I have to say that it’s not perfect but has up to now done an adequate job.

One of TG’s best features was being able to schedule videos to go out to the sites it’s supports with up to 4 upload dates and going to 4 different accounts. I always used this feature as it saved so much time.

However as of 31 Oct 2010 they have removed the timed submission feature and now you have to do each on separately – they obviously didn’t think this through and have removed one of the main features that differentiated them from other cheaper sites.

This has been the final straw as far as I’m concerned – TG has always been expensive but it has just pushed things that one step to far for me to stay with them.

As far as the other services for articles and so on there are other services that do the same job only better and maybe I’ll now have to go through an extra step of making my own MP3 but that’s no big deals now I’m saving $97 a month.

I’ll be trying HeySpread for a start as that seems a good option and for $97 you get nearly 2000 uploads – so I’m bound to save money.

  • http://paulcarterjr.posterous.com Paul Carter Jr. #pcjr

From my experience, TrafficGeyser seems to be only good for many of it’s training videos offered as apart of the monthly fee. Those videos are great for new affiliate marketers or people with no knowledge or starting from scratch. I would say to anyone, use the 21 day FREE membershp to study ALL of those videos and information like there is no tomorrow but MAKE sure you CANCEL your subscription well in advance of the 21st day or the last day of the trial!!

Other than that, I have to agree with you David, it’s overRATED!! In addition, you are bombarded with other opportunities the TrafficGeyer founder promotes. He promotes the people in his personal network or mastermind group’s programs. I have no problem with that to some degree, it’s a good idea provided the products are not OVERrated which is the topic of this article. With that said, DON”T spend the money on TrafficGeyser!!! It’s all about the affiliate program, the commissions earned from the program primarily. TubeMogul, I”m IN!!

  • Justin Boyce

Mike Koenigs is in cahouts with the likes of Frank Kern (the guy who got sued by the ftc for telling his customers his product made him hundreds of thousands when it hadn’t

Andy Jenkins a guy who left his phone call with Jeff Walker on his web hosting where they discussed putting the price up from $497 to $2000 to reduce refunds not because the program was worth it.

Mike Filsaime who has done countless unsavoury things such as sell products with 50% broken links “the Best deal ever” Trolled the warrior forum for everyone emails using software so he could spam them I could go on for a year about his bs.

Traffic Geyser is over priced and over hyped you can buy three software program that do a way better job for less than three months membership and use them as many times as you like…

There is also an interesting video on Koenigs on youtube where he talks about launching a program with Tony Robbins staff it gives great incite into what a true scumbag Koenigs is.

My advice stay away from him and yes I tried Traffic Geyser tried to cancel my membership but got auto charged and only got my money back when I spent close to $100 dollars on phone calls trying to track down Koenigs to tell him I’d complain to the ftc if they didn’t stop billing me.

Now I hate people who run down others anonymously so my name is Justin Boyce as you can tell I’m not a fan of Traffic Geyser and have good reasons for having that stance.

Nice post David and I’m glad to see I’m not the only one around who wont recommend bs to make a buck.

    David,

I agree. I just don’t see the appeal, but I do wish that TubeMogul had an affiliate program.

You are not overly cynical – Traffic Geyser doesn’t work, for several reasons:
    - It lists on crappy sites, like you mention
    - It does NOT produce the thousands of backlinks it promises
    - Even if it did, such a spammy direct linking strategy is madness if you’re building a niche site especially
    - It encourages the production of sub-standard, spammy content … those **&&### Animoto videos! Urgh.
    - It takes a LOT of manual intervention to get it up and running

I fully support your opinion that it is a huge scam driven by affiliate marketing, and I would never spend a single cent or penny on it.

  • Rhondalynn

I signed up for Traffic Geyser several months ago and can report that after trying several time to submit content, at least 1/2 of it gets rejected by the video and article sites. The hardest part is that it is difficult to know why and it requires a lot of time spent manually trying to figure it out and repost. I am considering just doing the whole thing manually instead of paying them.
I sent an email to Traffic Geyser head office to ask for support and got an email back from them saying that they get 500+ emails a day from their 10,000 customers and just were too busy to give me a personalized response with help. Personally, I find this note fascinating. If they really have 10,000 customers, you’d think they would have a decent budget for customer service. Plus 500+ emails a day means that 25% of their customers don’t understand and need help each week. That says to me their might be an issue with usability.

  • http://paulcarterjr.posterous.com Paul Carter Jr. #pcjr

Thanks everyone, I mean everyone for the comments!! :) The many different perspectives helped! The only value I see in TG are the videos they created to help new Internet marketers to get started including videos explaining how to make quality videos using home made strategies. However, beyond a month ($97), I don’t think it’s worth it.

I noticed some video sites seem to abhor automated submissions anyway and many reported accounts being terminated. And also some were terminated due to clearly because the content did not match the nature of those sites or failed to follow the video formats, etc.

Be that as it may, what are the solutions? TubeMogul seems to be a pretty good solution, I think one must consider each site carefully before automating submissions to avoid terminated accounts. Plus obviously, one should read TubeMogul’s TOS before using. Any other solutions or sources or strategies for automated submissions? Doing it manually? Thanks in advance everyone!! :)

  • The Truth Hurts

Well, this is certainly an interesting thread. At this moment in time, anyone comparing tubeMoguls current offering to TrafficGeyser clearly isn’t informed. TubeMoguls terms of service, as many in this thread have pointed out, nullify the main reason a marketer would want to utilize video syndication to begin with. Is TrafficGeyser perfect, certainly not, however they also have a giant learning library of content to teach people about every aspect of video marketing, as well as terms of service that allow people to actually market a product without having an account banned or shut down, much less baiting and switching you to a $1500/mo service. I would expect a fair amount of unjustified hate on any blog as Mike is a successful marketer who hangs out with other successful marketers, and we can all attest to the fact that many individuals who purchase a product in this industry rarely take action. They buy product after product, waiting for a check to arrive, and when they find out work is required, they cry scam, or fraud. It’s sad. I applaud Dave for taking an objective look initially, however this article fails to take into account TubeMoguls newest changes in pricing and terms, which after those two categories are brought in, TG, for marketers, is the clear winner.

  • http://www.rsweblists.com Jarsh

I’ve also used Traffic Geyser and the training is great. What I don’t like right now (for the past few months) is half of the status on the submission reports FAILED. It says Login Failed, Upload Failed. However, I’ve TRIED TO MANUALLY LOGIN TO THE ACCOUNTS, and guess what? It worked. So it means that there’s something wrong with traffic geyser. Also, they do not have a system to handle the sites that are listed in their submission that uses CAPTCHA.. A lot of social bookmarking websites requires to enter the text on the CAPTCHA before it can proceed, and it seems that they can’t handle that.

I laugh at so many of these comments of people complaining about either service…it is so hard to stop and look at yourself as the source of the problem sometimes. 99% of people using one of these services have AWFUL videos. You didn’t get the traffic/sales/results because your video sucks. Good quality videos get watched, that’s why Youtube works.

But that’s ok, all my videos suck too!

Hmm tahnks for help me making my mind up about Traffic Gyser. I saw it when it was in the pre launch phase with Frank Kern on the side doing his thing.

After a long absence from doing any sort of IM activity online I was stumped when I saw Tube Mongul charge a minimum of $97/month. Aww well, gotta say though that if I was going to pay for a video distribution service, Tube Mongul would defo be it as they seem to tap into major video sharing sites like youtube etc

    Great article David!!!

  • Anthony Sievers

Great post, I was introduced to TG first then came across TM. I was wondering what I was missing, I wonder no more.

  • Gil

Great reply thanks for posting, I just got into the fusion program and I sure will test it out to the max before the 30 day refund period is out.

OK so you like EVOII what about the new SEnuke x ?

  • Anonymous

hi Gil, i havn’t tried SEONuke so can’t comment on that, but EVOII just gets me laughing at my pc when it runs! i almost feel like i’m cheating! its a bit funny really cos i have installed it on my own laptop, my daughters little netbook, and the main pc in the house – and the program is just constantly running on all three!

As soon as the software finishes its run for one url, i then input another url and start the program again! (i dont usually like using exclamation marks but this stuff deserves it!) i have quite a few domains though btw – Peter recommends running each url every 4 to 7 days until you get the top ranking position.

Each run takes about 6 to 7 hours i find – so i usually leave it overnight or, if i am workign on the pc, just let it run in the background.

So far hand on heart i can honestly say that i have noticed a difference in a few of my rankings, and i have only been using it since the 4th April :-)

    have you tried either gill?

  • Guest

TubeMogul is no longer as good an option as it once was. I don’t know when this changed, but if your content even remotely promotes anything resembling a business, they’ll suspend your free account and their paid options are just expensive as TrafficGeyser. Also, you can only post to about a dozen sites at once with their free account.

  • Padamham

with tubemogul you cant uploan commercial videos without paying so you have to pay also if you want to promote something so its just about 50 bucks to use effectively…

  • Bruce1129

So I read all the comments.  Not sure what to think.  I did manage to get TG for 3 months (no charge).  It looks awesome.  I have spent the whole day going through the vids.  I am going to try it out and I will be back to post my opinion.

I use senukex and it kicks arse!  have not tried evo because I heard it crashes lots.  Personally I think $97 a month is cheap or at least reasonable.  I honestly thought the price was going to be twice that.  Whats a hundred bucks if it makes you money?

It might turn out to be a pice of junk like howie howie schwartz’s automated bookmarking service.  I hated that thing; it was useless, so I got a refund.  I hope it works cuz my time is valuable and I would hate to waste a day or two on it.

An excellent comment. I have been thinking about them for a while It seems they have a 1$ trial now
