Hi everyone, I’m a new starter, not even a full member (although I have a feeling I will be!). I’m in a position that I know has impacted many people in the last 12 months! My main career working as a software engineer on Aircraft control systems is on hold due to Covid! I was a freelancer working for Rolls-Royce and other companies. But at the moment there are no contracts! So I’m keen to create a business that is more in tune with my passions!

My other passion is the Internet, the technology, security, coding, servers, linux, WordPress, I love it all. I have a website designedforpixels.com which I want to be a focus for good quality, more personal WordPress services like support, care plans, hosting, courses!

I also have a plugin called ‘WP Cloud Server’ approved by WordPress that allows developers and agencies to sell hosting using services like DigitalOcean, Cloudways, RunCloud, and more with add-on modules coming to add services! It integrates with WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads! It has it’s own website! But take-up is very small.

The problem is that it feels too much! I’m overwhelmed! I think I need a more focussed idea of where I’m heading. I think I’m too stuck in the ways I’ve always done things. I keep getting new ideas that distract me! But I want to have a business that provides a service! I think I have the skills, but not the business sense!

I would love some feedback. Peoples thoughts?

        Gary

WP Cloud Server sounds interesting. Do you have a website for it?

I think you need to pick one and see it through. Doesn’t mean you will only do one thing… just one thing at a time. 🙂 And, that plug-in sounds like it could have interest, but perhaps just isn’t marktered well.

Hi David, thanks for the reply. Yes. The plugin is at wpcloudserver.dev, and yes it probably has been poorly marketed!! I tend to get stuck in a loop and spent years playing with themes and plugins, and never really ‘sorting’ the main business. This was fine when I had a career but now I need to focus! Really, I think the plugin has potential, but I’ve created the designedforpixels.com website to bring in some cash from services I can offer now, like support! which I know is probably the wrong approach, and two websites is hard work!

If you’ve got the time and passion for creating WordPress plug-ins, it is definitely something that has more potential than doing another WordPress agency site. Service providers like that are, frankly, a commodity. The great thing about plugins is that they offer an instant solution to people.
