@David / anyone with experience – what’s your take on buying domains related to our own site?
I have a number of domains, that all redirect to my site. I’ve no immediate plans to build them out as separate sites though.
I’m guessing I probably don’t get any link juice or SEO benefit from this – or is there?
Also, If I have other domain names that are:
1.) closely related to my own/competitors
2.) are closely related keywords/search terms for my siteI figure this is just good to ‘own’ that subject space online in terms of URLs.
The other reason I have extra domains is for possible future projects that may or may not ever see the light of day. But we all do that – don’t we?

The only real reason to do it is:
(a) Just in case you think you’ll use it someday.
(b) To keep somebody else from having it.
But, you don’t get any SEO benefit from merely having a domain redirect. It could be OK for word-of-mouth referral, perhaps. But, the SEO doesn’t matter merely for a domain. There would be no links to it (assumedly) and no content on it, so therefore it is ignored for SEO and only your main site is looked at.

OK – that’s clear.
Good second point – as part of what drove me to ask this was that, but I forgot to mention it.
Just a follow-up question: if someone searches in Google for the term that happens to match a domain I have (and is forwarding to my main website) would that search mean my site appearing as a match in the results??
