Facebook Pixel disappeared – what are my options?

OK (after my GA going AWOL last month) I was about to run a FB ad yesterday only to discover that my FB pixel has disappeared from my site.

I spent over 1 hour on chat with FB (which was pretty useless) but it seems it stopped reporting on the 14th or 15th of this month.

It had been running since 2018. And I was told there’s no way to ‘revivie’ it and retain all my historical traffic data, and that the only option was to setup a new pixel and start all over again.

Question: If I were to reinstall a version of my website, from a backup where the site still had my FB pixel, would that work and provide data continuity (so I wouldn’t have to set up a new pixel)?

(Thought: I have a suspicion that Thrive updates caused this, as an update to Thrive Theme Builder a couple of weeks back just randomly deleted my favicon and I had to re-upload that. I’ll probably raise a ticket with Thrive just to investigate that possibility.)

Bloofy frustration to say the least.

        Thanks for any informed guidance!

First off, updating to Thrive Theme Builder doesn’t just delete a favicon. If you have it set up via the theme settings, it always retains as it is part of your database and not the theme. I am using Theme Builder on 2 sites and never had an issue.

As for Facebook, no… all that pixel does is send data to Facebook. If you had a hole there of a few days without that data being reported, then restoring a site backup isn’t going to change anything. The data is missing from the Facebook side, not your site.

It would make no sense at all that you’d need to set up a new Facebook pixel. Just go into your Ads account and get the pixel tracking code for the pixel you already have. Then, go into Thrive Global Elements and set it up to appear site-wide… just like you did for Google Analytics.

Basically, I don’t know how you originally had the FB pixel installed. But, if it was part of your previous theme, then it doesn’t carry over to Theme Builder without you having to set it up again.

            Thanks David.

I’ll look to see if I can find the original pixel code. I’ve got a feeling I couldn’t find it in FB Ad Manager for some reason.

I set up the FB Pixel, alongside the Google Pixel, when I installed TTB.

BTW, woke up to an error message from WordPress this morning saying that Thrive Theme Builder “has caused a fatal error” on my site.

Seems when it comes to Thrive that I’m not so lucky!

I tried to edit the above post but received an error messsage and it didn’t save my changes.

So I’m posting them again here:

              Thanks David.

I got an “Unable to contact License Activation Server.” notice in my dashboard for WishList Member yesterday which (seemingly) occured out of nowhere (but also coincided with another TTB update). WLM are looking into that as SiteGround reported it isn’t at their end.

Then, this morning I woke up to an error message from WordPress this morning saying that Thrive Theme Builder “has caused a fatal error” on my site.

Seems when it comes to Thrive that I’m not so lucky. Hence my suspicions!

I may have to get in touch with Thrive to report this.

                Hi David,

I cannot find my pixel code. in my FB account(!)

I’ve always run my ads from my personal FB account not a business page, but when I go into my personal FB account I simply cannot find the pixel code – anywhere. (FB’s horrendous interface is only an impediment!)

Honestly I’ve spent hours trying to find it (using google, youtube and FB help pages in an attempt to guide me) but nothing.

In the end, I’ve had to copy the template code from a FB developer page (https://developers.facebook.com/docs/facebook-pixel/implementation#base-code) and replace the placeholder text with my Pixel ID.

I’ve added that back to the Script Manager in the Thrive Dashboard. Hopefully it will work and won’t just go AWOL again.

BTW,the WishList problem *was* caused by the latest TTB update. WishList told me they’ve created a patch and have informed Thrive.

I’m not happy with the TTB updates since its introduction as they have definitely caused me multiple issues (other visual problems I’ve not reported here that I’ve had to raise tickets for).

I’ll just have to be sure to do a site backup before every update of TTB.

This has been the week from hell on the tech front.

I look forward to getting on with making some money for a change!

Thanks for all your support David via the BMA, my business life would be unmanagable without it!

(And, yes, you can use that as a testimonial if you wish!)

                Right, I’m getting a bloody well-earned coffee.

Sorry I didn’t reply sooner. I was out all last week with the family and wasn’t online as often.

Yeah, whenever I update plugins or themes, I always do a site backup then update manually (never automatic). If there’s an issue, I can just revert.
