Youtube vs blog

I had a WordPress blog some time ago, so Im not new to it. But more recently, I’ve been working on Youtube videos. Mainly because YT is such a big search engine. I have a WordPress site, but just use it to host my lead magnet.

Is there an advantage to putting the videos on my blog as well?

I was thinking of adding transcripts with each video; but there will some effort (and small cost) getting it transcribed, plus creating pages for my past videos.

Is it worth building up the blog, rather than just using Youtube for everything? (And I realise this is a WordPress group 🙂 )

I got these great replies in another forum:

“Youtube is fickle, you need to own your own platform”

“Your website is your place on the web and you own it/control it. You don’t own YouTube or the followers you have there. “

“In my opinion having a website and videos on it helps in branding in the long run, grow both the channel and site together”

I agree with all those comments.

IT really depends on what you want to do. If you’re just messin’ around for fun, then do whatever you want. But, if you’re trying to build a business, relying exclusively on Youtube would.be like trying to build up an office building on land you don’t own. Oh, and the land owner might just show up with a bulldozer and rip your building down on a whim.
