[GROW-6] Do THIS instead of writing another blog post

Today is part 6 of our series on how to make the most headway in your business in the least possible time. And today’s “episode” (if you will) isn’t going to be about anything new to you, most likely. But, I’d like to perhaps restore this to it’s proper place at the top of your importance list.

Making a new lead magnet.

And I mean, doing that instead of writing another blog post or doing some other usual content creation.

Your email list is super, SUPER important. More important than your blog, even. Your email list represents the LEVERAGE you are building over time that will fuel your return traffic, your sales, your… everything.

Now, a blog post – at least as most people treat them – is very LOW leverage. You publish it, feel good for a little bit. Your traffic might get a little bump. Perhaps you get a few comments or share. But, then it disappears into your archives and hardly ever gets seen again.

As most people do blogging, it is a churn and burn operation.

So, spending that available time creating a lead magnet to build your list makes more sense than churning out another blog post. ESPECIALLY if you only have one lead magnet. Or worse…. zero.

This could be a whole new lead magnet or a smaller content upgrade. And if you’re thinking this will clearly take you a lot longer than a blog post…. think again. There’s a good chance you can actually FINISH a new lead magnet in 30 minutes! That’s because you don’t need to write some big ebook, create some fancy video, or a whole “email challenge”. Some of the highest converting lead magnets are usually short one-pagers.

Here’s a shortcut that will work for ya, in almost every single case…

  1. Go to your traffic stats (i.e. Analytics) and find out what your top 5 blog posts are, in terms of traffic.
  2. For each one, come up with a simple content upgrade that you can add to the post. Keep it short and sweet. Don’t overthink it.
  3. Create the lead magnet.
  4. Use Thrive Leads to set up an opt-in form for that lead magnet right inside the blog post. What I like to do is set up a two-step opt-in which is native to the post and allows people to opt-in without taking them away from the post they’re reading. Thrive Leads can do this while many other tools cannot.

What this does is presents effective list builders right on your highest-traffic posts. Makes total sense, right?

And it’s a much better use of your limited time than churning another un-optimized blog post and publishing it.
