The lessons from my first “challenge”

If you’ve been with me for a little while, perhaps you remember my 30 Day Blog Transformation Challenge.

In fact, judging from my recent Daily survey, a few of you may have found me from that! Very cool!

For those of you not familiar with it, it was a 30-day video series I did several years back that gave a daily video on…. well, transforming your blog. Each day focused our attention on some aspect of the blog and how to make it more strategic and effective.

The whole thing is now available right on Youtube via a playlist if you wanna go through it:
30 Day Blog Transformation Challenge

As an aside, these videos were recorded like 5 years ago now. Maybe even 6. I watch these things now and get a little chuckle how I look. No beard and all that! šŸ˜‰

Anyway, that Challenge did very well for me. I put a lot of people on my email list with that Challenge and I earned a lot of customers (even though I wasn’t selling anything). Many of my current Lab members originally found me from that Challenge, in fact.

But, I also learned some lessons from it. Namely…

  1. Don’t make it so long. Honestly, I think 30 days was too long-winded.
  2. Make it more specific. “Blog transformation” is pretty vague and we talked about all kinds of things during that challenge. I think making the outcomes more specificĀ would have been preferable.
  3. From a marketing perspective, make it lead somewhere.

I think the biggest success of the Challenge was building that relationship with subscribers. Many people became quite comfortable with me and got to know me and my style via those videos.

Anyway, I’m sitting here brainstorming doing this again. Creating some new challenges. šŸ™‚

And I’m curious…

What suggestions do YOU have for me for some new ones?

Obviously, I have some ideas already. But, I like to keep my ear to the ground and know how I can best serve you.

Mind you, these won’t be full training courses. I do that stuff inside The Lab.

But, moving beyond a written blog post is important. And challenges similar to this one are a great way to do it.

So, what free video challenges would you like to see me produce for you on the Blog Marketing Academy site?

I’m all ears. Just hit reply and let me know.
