Most hosting companies — even the well-known “managed WordPress” providers — operate on a one-size-fits-all model. Their platforms are optimized for the masses, not for your specific site. Everything is preconfigured to work “well enough” for thousands of customers at once, which means you have little control, limited customization, and no way to fine-tune the environment to match how your site actually works.
Even worse, the “managed” label is often misleading. These hosts don’t truly manage your site for you. They provide the server and a dashboard, but they still expect you to handle updates, performance issues, plugin conflicts, slowdowns, caching quirks, security alerts, and everything else that comes with running a WordPress site. And unless you’re technical enough to know what to ask for, nothing gets done.
Customer support has shifted, too. Many hosts now rely heavily on AI-assisted responses or first-tier support agents who don’t actually know your site. What the Technical Setup Looks Like
(And What I Handle for You)
Behind the scenes, your site runs on a purpose-built WordPress hosting environment that I configure and maintain specifically for my Concierge clients. It includes a tuned server stack, optimized caching, reliable (and redundant) offsite backups, and layered security designed to keep your site both fast and protected.
I manage all the pieces most site owners don’t want to think about (or don’t even know they need to think about). That includes configuring the server, setting up proper caching rules, ensuring your database is healthy, optimizing images and delivery paths, monitoring PHP performance, caching, and keeping everything up to date.
I also handle security, with multiple levels of firewall, malware scanning, uptime monitoring, web application security, bot protection – you name it. I’ll handle the stuff you may not even think about.
Also, nothing is “one size fits all”. I manage multiple servers – each set up differently depending on the type of website. Truth is, dynamic membership sites have different hosting requirements (not only hardware, but server settings) than your typical blog. I audit each site that comes in… and place it onto the hosting environment which best suits it. Then, I individually tweak the settings for THAT site so that it will perform the best.
That’s what ACTUAL managed hosting looks like.

Servers. We use multiple servers provided by the Hetzner cloud infrastructure. I ensure they are over-powered for the amount of sites on them – and precisely setup for maximum performance.
SERVER TUNING. Each server is optimized for particular types of sites. Nginx or OpenLitespeed, depending on the server. Optimized settings for PHP, database types, caching and memory management.
STAGING SITES. Absolutely, if you need a staging site, you got it.
CACHING. I manage tailored caching setups based on the type of site. Nginx caching, Litespeed Cache, and Cloudflare EDGE caching… along with specific local caching options like FlyingPress when needed.
Email Delivery. Most web hosts either handle email delivery poorly… or not at all. This means emails sent by your WordPress site may – or may not – actually make it to the inbox. I use Postmark for high-end email deliverability for all clients – automatically.
DATA CENTERS. US clients are usually in the Hetzner data center in “data center alley” in Ashburn, VA. EU clients use servers based in Germany. I always try to host clients as close to their physical location as possible.
BACKUPS. Backups are fully taken care of for you, using the 3-2-1 backup strategy. We use BlogVault as the base layer, combined with nightly backups to Cloudflare R2, mirroring to a local NAS at our Florida home base – and mirrored to Synology C2. On top of that, I run server-level backups with Hetzner. Backups are the LAST thing you need to worry about!
RESTORES. In the event you need to restore from a backup, I will manage it for you. It can be a full or partial restore. Can even restore to temporary staging sites so you can browse old versions of your site without overwriting your main site.
Domains & DNS. You will buy your domain with any registrar you want, but I will fully handle everything else for you using Cloudflare. Don’t fuss with DNS settings or any of the nerdy stuff. I’ll take care of it.
PROTECTION. Your site is protected by multiple firewalls – including a set of custom security rules I’ve set up with Cloudflare specifically to greatly reduce the annoyance of bots and spambots hammering your site. I also do constant malware scanning, both for site infection and vulnerable WordPress plugins. When it comes up, I will handle it before you even know about it.
UPDATES. WordPress sites need routine updates of core, themes and plugins. It is a fundamental component of website management and most web hosts won’t do it for you. I will.
Image Optimization. Most web hosts (even the good ones) leave this up to you. I consider this mission-critical for site performance. So, I will handle it for you, powered by ShortPixel.
OWNERSHIP. Digital sovereignty is one of my guiding principles. This means that while I will manage your site for you, I am very intentional about always making sure you have an exit ramp. Your site will have a profile inside your account, letting you know where everything is and where it is managed. You will also be equipped to move your site away from Concierge at anytime – with or without my involvement. Your site is YOUR’S.
