Paid Acquisition Is Just A Fact Of Life
If you haven’t noticed, there’s a lot of noise out there.
Of course you’ve noticed! It’s in your face every day. Videos, emails, tweets, posts, blogs, podcasts… oh my! 🤪
A big part of this, too, is that there are so many businesses, people and creators all vying for the same attention. YOUR attention. And so the volume of content has shot up. The quality has gotten really good. And there’s so much over-supply that people are moving around the internet with their guards up.
So, there’s just certain facts that we have to live with as content creators and online business owners. Things like:
In order to get noticed these days, you have to be prolific. Which means… lots of volume, lots of quantity. Which is insanely time consuming.
You can share and “engage” all day on social media and it will still barely move the needle. Simply because you’re drowned out by the noise.
These days, growing your email list can feel like a lost cause because people will unsubscribe as fast as they subscribe. Every time you send out, you get a certain amount of unsubscribes (which is totally normal). But, if you’re not adding new subscribers as quickly, your list actually shrinks.
I won’t go on. But, these frustrations are normal. I feel them, too.
We’re at a point now where paid acquisition – running paid traffic – is just a fact of life. ESPECIALLY if you don’t have the time or inclination to be as prolific online as you would otherwise need to be.
So many product creators out there can’t make any sales unless they have a paid traffic funnel.
So many membership site owners can’t get any new members without running paid traffic.
It is hard to get anything noticed on social media without using paid ads to boost your stuff.
Email lists sit there in paralysis (or even shrink) unless you’re running paid traffic to grow your list. Even really big newsletters out there just stop growing the moment they turn off ads. Unsubscribe rates equalize out the subscription rates and the result is just no growth.
For many, the need to run paid ads seems… bad. Spending money seems like a tall order. So many try to do it all for free.
But, it is actually a good thing for those who are willing to do it.
Because it forces you to approach everything like a business. If you realize you’re going to need to pay for exposure, it forces you to get really dialed in on the things that convert.
Plus, ad spend shouldn’t be looked at simply as an expense. It’s fuel. And the whole idea is that you set things up so that you at least break even on that spending. If you can at least break even, then you can grow easily. Put it into the profit, and you just became a money printer.
This is how you grow your business.
In fact, it is paramount. I think even just running a blog these days… you need to have something going on that permits you to be able to run paid traffic to your blog posts.
The alternative, in my view, is that you’re going to be sitting at your desk 24/7 just pumping out content trying to build inertia. And, hey, it might work. But, personally, I’d rather spend a minority of my time creating content. I have other things to do. I’m sure you do, too.
SITE STRATEGY
Logins Across Multiple Sites
So, here’s something I was dealing with last week. You may find it useful.
What if you have two or more WordPress sites. You want people to be able to have a profile on all of them. And somehow those profiles need to be synced up. Perhaps even that when somebody logs into one of your sites, they are logged into all of them at the same time.
It is actually not nearly as difficult as one may think. And as with so many things in Wordpress land, there’s a plugin for that!
There’s 2 plugins I want to bring to your attention:
WP Fusion. You’re probably familiar with this one since I sure have talked about it a lot. 😇
WP Remote Users Sync. We’ll call this one WPRUS for short.
What WP Fusion does is “fuses” your site with your CRM. Allowing you to control user profiles with tags in your CRM. And it can connect to remote CRMs all day long.
So, if your CRM is already remotely hosted (like Aweber, ConvertKit, ActiveCampaign, etc.), then you can connect multiple sites to the same CRM. Which means user profiles across all of your sites can be looking at the same set of tags and custom fields.
So, for instance, they can purchase a membership on one site (since that’s where your store and landing pages are) and unlock content on an entirely different site (your membership site). It is all done using WP Fusion talking to one, central CRM.
And BTW, even if you’re using a local CRM like FluentCRM (which is my favorite), it has the ability to connect via REST API. Which means, you can treat FluentCRM like a remotely hosted email service provider and have several of your sites talking to ONE setup of FluentCRM. Works beautifully.
Next up…
WPRUS will actually sync user profiles between multiple WordPress sites. When one of your members registers on one site (or updates their profile), you can have those changes mirrored to your other sites automatically.
It even has the ability to sync logins. Meaning, they log into one of your sites and they are automatically logged into another. If they switch over to your other site, there’s no need for them to log in again. And even if they did log in on the other site next time, all their login info is the same. It is seamless.
WPRUS and WP Fusion can work together, too. This way you can not only keep profiles in sync using WPRUS, but you can keep their tags in sync as well and use that to control permissions, trigger automations, etc. Regardless of site.
Pretty cool, heh? 😍
TOOL OF THE WEEK
Targeted Messaging Within WordPress
Marketing always works much better when it is presented to the right person… at the right time and in the right context.
Putting a marketing message in front of everybody like an unaimed machine gun just doesn’t work. It is the old “spray and pray” approach… like dropping crap in the blog sidebar. People just tune it out.
Ahoy is a cool little plugin that enables you to present the right call to action… to the right people at the right time. And do it all from within WordPress so you don’t need to use external apps.
The list of integrations with Ahoy is a little limited (It is just one developer), but with a bit of setup, this little thing will pay for itself multiple times over.
I’m not an affiliate for this. Just wanted to make you aware of it. That’s the beauty of WordPress is that there are so many cool little tools out there like this one!
