Issue #8

Repurposing content. Will anybody notice?

Sent onOctober 18, 2017

I was in the Lab Community, as I am every single day. And one of the members asked this question.

She had a redwood post on her blog (click here if you don’t know what a redwood post is). And she was curious about the idea of repurposing it by turning it into a lead magnet to build her list.

She knew she could, of course. But… in her own words…

“I’m asking because in a way it seems counter-logical because they can get access for free via the blog, so why would they opt-in?”

Ah yes. Why would they opt-in for it if it is already on the blog?

But, then I reminded her…

In all likelihood, she is the only one in the world who knows that it is available for free on her blog. Much less even cares.

Plus, the value in such a thing is different. When you have a PDF version, it is downloadable and portable. People can keep a copy for their own reference. They can print it and makes notes all over it if they want. So, not only will most people not know it is on your blog, but they likely wouldn’t even care if they saw that it was!

Plus, it isn’t as if you’re charging money for it. It is a lead magnet.

Making a lead magnet out of a popular blog post (especially a redwood post) can make a lot of sense. You already know the thing is popular!

Hey, let me let you on a little secret….

Yes, it is the same thing. When they opt-in, they’re basically getting a PDF version of the blog post.

And you know what? It is one of my most popular lead magnets. Has a nice email series behind it, too, to get them to hopefully sign up for The Lab.

So, yes. By all means…. repurpose your blog posts into lead magnets.

It is effective. It is efficient. It is simple.

And it works.
