The Email Marketing Triangle
Here’s what’s on the menu for this issue…
Everybody knows that email marketing is pretty important. But, how exactly to implement that can lead to questions. Such as…
How often should you email your list?
Below, I want to share a very simple marketing concept for email marketing. I call it the “Email Marketing Triangle”.
And on that note… I have a big question for you. I really want your feedback on this.
So, let’s dive in…

The Email Marketing Triangle
People like to do business with people they know, like and trust. That much is basically marketing 101.
What makes people know, like and trust you? Well, it boils down to 3 things:
Relevancy.
Personality.
Frequency.
I believe all 3 things go together in your email marketing. And it works like a triangle. All 3 corners are important.
Relevancy is making the message relevant to the person receiving it. Are they interested? Do they care? Is it something which is applicable to them? It’s important to segment people on your list and email them things they’re most likely to care about.
Personal just means, of course, being personal. In other words, being human. Being YOU. Not sounding corporate. Showing personality, letting people into your life. And don’t sit there and sound like a salesman and promote all the time… because that’s not very personal.
Those 2 things, together, are super important. And when you have those things working well, then….
Frequency is just being “top of mind” for them by communicating to them often enough. This has to do with how often you email your list.
Even if your marketing is relevant and personal, if you barely ever message them then it still fails to land. They might not remember you. Essentially, it is a way of breaking off communication. And that’s not smart.
At the same time, frequency in the absence of relevancy or personality isn’t going to land. It’s just noise.
But, if you can successfully make those emails relevant and personal, then you can ramp up that frequency and people will love you for it. See how that works?
With this in mind, how can you hurt your own email marketing efforts? By being irrelevant, not being very personal… and not sending emails often enough.
SURVEY: Your Opinion On Email Frequency Is Wanted 🙏
When I first started sending an official newsletter (back in like 2018), it started off as a daily email. It was called The Daily. Some of you may remember it if you’ve been around awhile. 🙂
The feedback was great. People really enjoyed it.
It didn’t look anything like what you see right now in this newsletter. It wasn’t nearly as long. Short and sweet. Some easily digestible tip or strategy… sometimes an opinion. Something to give you a little something to think about and then… move on.
And I kept it personal. Like emailing my friends. Emails sometimes just based on what I was working on or paying attention to that given day.
Why did I stop?
It was simply a time management tactic, really. It got to be tough to keep up with.
I am considering bringing it back.
Thing is, I know people get used to certain… patterns. And a lot of you have gotten used to hearing from me only once per week. But, it is this big, long email. And honestly… I can’t help but wonder how many of you actually read the whole thing. 🤪
Come on. You can be real with me. 😉 LOL.
So, I’m considering a format change. And I would like to know your opinion on the matter.
And, of course, if you’ve like to give me a bit more feedback, just hit that reply button. 🙂
WordPress Quick Bits…
Uncanny Automator 5.1 has been released which offers several new integrations. You now have integrations with Easy Digital Downloads recurring payments… as well as Mautic. Pro users now have the option to “Run Now”, so you don’t need a trigger and you can run an automation manually. This comes off the back of the launch of “Loops” in version 5.0, so there’s some interesting possibilities there between Loops and “Run Now”. Things like bulk updates, sending email campaigns, etc.
BeeHiiv (which I use for this newsletter) has been evolving quickly. And last week, they acquired Swapstack. Swapstack is one of the larger newsletter advertising and monetization platforms…. and now it will be integrated right into BeeHiiv. The monetization options for newsletters on BeeHiiv are certainly expanding.
BeeHiiv has also launched what they call “simple sending”. Basically a way to email only a segment… or exempt a segment. Useful. And, if I am to set up a daily option for this newsletter, I’m likely to use this feature so you guys have a choice.
WPManageNinja (the folks behind FluentCRM and Fluent Forms) has released a new free plugin: Fluent Comments. This is a plugin to replace the default WordPress comment setup with one that looks better and offers better built-in spam protection. If I had to guess, they have future plans with this plugin. 🙂
Joost de Valk (the dude originally behind Yoast) has released Less Tags plugin which, as you may be able to tell by the name, will… show less tags. 😉 So, the idea here is that when you assign a big load of tags to your posts, it will not display them all on your post unless a certain number of posts have been assigned to that tag. In other words, it’ll only show tags on your site when there is enough to warrant it. Good for removing tag spam on your site when you’ve been a little too…. loose with your tags. 🙂
